Welcome to the Global Curriculum Orbit

WELCOME TO THE GLOBAL CURRICULUM ORBIT

Work with us to empower students to change the future they are about to inherit.

1. Context

In 2015 the United Nations adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, a blueprint for peace and prosperity for the planet and humanity, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries.

2. State of Play

Our research has highlighted key initiatives and resources centred around youth engagement and the SDGs e.g., United Nations Online Student Resources, UN YouthCoLab, Project Everyone SDGs, the SDGs in Action App, the World’s Largest Lesson in partnership with UNICEF and UNESCO and Teach SDGs.
What differentiates these initiatives and the Global Curriculum Orbit (GCO)?

The GCO makes a huge shift from knowing about the 17 SDGS to learning in an orbit of the SDGs, generating real outcomes that advance peace and prosperity for the planet and humanity.

Recognising that the UN has declared this the Decade of Action, and as Agenda 2030 aims to be fully achieved in less than ten years, GCO will engage children aged 5 to 17. There is a need for urgent agility, collaboration, co-creation, and co-production to achieve faster and more impactful outcomes. Youth understand this urgency and are resilient in the face of the rapidly changing and dynamic circumstances the world is facing right now.

How will GCO advance student engagement for significant change?

GCO will empower students to change the future they are going to inherit.

Check out Global Curriculum Orbit at a glance:

The it

Establish the Global Curriculum Orbit - the first global curriculum for schools.

The what

Build a curriculum orbit where children in both real and virtual classrooms will get inside and learn through the integration and intersection of the 17 SDGs.

The why

The SDGs have brought our world together, identifying the global issues critical to the future of the planet and humankind. We will enable children within real and virtual classrooms to work with the SDGs and through the collision of major goals and innovate to become the leaders of the future.

The means

Work alongside key global organisations and through ubiquitous digital platforms to provide students universal access to the global curriculum orbit.

The ends

Global Curriculum Orbit includes the:
1. Classroom - hypothesis based, action learning.
2. Virtual Platform – user interface for collaboration.
3. Global Gallery – a knowledge bank of student solutions to wicked problems.
4. Accelerator – incubation and strategic management of ideas that will result in new ways of thinking and being.

3. What is the Global Curriculum Orbit?

The Global Curriculum will literally orbit integration, intersection, and the collision of the 17 SDGs.

The i’s of innovation will characterise the GCO pedagogy through imagination, innovation, improvisation, intersection, interruption, integration, and invention. These dynamics will lead to new ideas and innovative solutions through the collision of the SDGs. Children will assume their place as innovators and entrepreneurs generating wicked, resilient solutions.

4. Why do we need this initiative?

A global virtual place needs to be created where children exhibit their knowledge and understanding as they learn and grow. The Global Curriculum Orbit has been designed for students to think about, imagine, create, and work collaboratively to find solutions to shared and relevant global agendas.

The GCO will align, focus, and bring together reality in a virtual place where students will challenge the status quo, build resiliency, and mobilise each other to take shared action across nations while maximising diversity and differences.

At the global level, this initiative strengthens and enhances the strategic management of ideas through the intersection, integration, and interaction of social progress and development through the SDGs.

Through the Global Curriculum Orbit, children will show, that innovation and resiliency are building blocks to accelerate sustainable impact and to strategically manage the turbulence and complexity of our world, their world.
